NSCRO/Penn Mutual Players of the Month (September)

By Jeannie Feliciano, NSCRO, 10/27/18, 6:45PM EDT

Congratulations to Breanna Harrell of The College of Wooster and Joshua Leatherby of Franciscan University on being selected as the NSCRO/Penn Mutual Players of the Month for September.

Before coming to Wooster, Harrell captained her high school team to victory in the 2017 Illinois State Championship. Earlier this year, she was chosen to represent Ohio on the 7s Select Side team for the NSCRO All-Star Championships. Although she never played 7s before, she performed well enough to be selected for the All-Tournament team.

Harrell has scored eight tries in three games this season so far but has never expected to be lauded for it and is always striving to do better. While she leans on her teammates to make sure she gets to the gym every week, she returns the favor by pushing them to work as hard as she does in practice, and is always willing to take a new player under her wing to help them better understand the game.

Off the pitch, she holds the role of Vice President for the club and has been a tireless promoter of the rugby program and a prolific recruiter.

Leatherby, a senior at Franciscan University was named Man of the Match against their conference rival, Robert Morris University in a recent match. When his team’s captain left the match with a head injury in the first half, Leatherby stepped up as captain in the second half. While he did not score himself, he setup tries for his teammates. Leatherby used his size and running ability to draw defenders in and create holes for his teammates. He also does a phenomenal job in keeping his teammates calm during stressful moments.

All NSCRO/Penn Mutual Players of the Month receives a framed certificate as well as a custom NSCRO ball and jersey courtesy of Rhino Rugby.
