On Saturday night, September 23rd, 2017 the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) RFC hosted their 2nd Annual MSOE Tackles Brain Cancer match to bring awareness to brain cancer and to raise money for Harley Helping Hands, which is an organization dedicated to helping families of those suffer from brain cancer focus on the illness and their loved ones instead of the financial burden the disease brings with it.

The match is inspired by former MSOE RFC lock, Curtis Thomas, who lost his battle with brain cancer in the fall of 2012.  Curtis was a leader on and off the pitch and always went above and beyond to contribute to both the team and the MSOE Community.  Harley Helping Hands came to the aid of the Thomas Family during Curtis’ battle and the proceeds of the nights fundraiser go to the organization.

The Madison Minotaurs got the match off to a scoring start due to a MSOE penalty and were up 3–0 before five minutes had even expired on the game clock.  MSOE picked their heads up and got right back at it and Eli Streeter dotted down approximately 5 minutes later to bring the score to 5- 3.  MSOE continued to attack and by the half, they were up 25 – 3.

The Minotaurs came out strong in the second half and held MSOE off for almost ten minutes before Jacob Paiser broke through for the first try of the second half.  MSOE would score four more times to make the final score 56 to 3 in the favor of the hosts with nine different Raiders scoring tries.

The real winner of the match was Harley Helping Hands as the match brought in over $1000 in donations for the organization, breaking the record from last year by about $300.

MSOE would like to thank the fans, the Madison Minotaurs, the Milwaukee Rugby community, MSOERFC Alumni, MSOE’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering for all their support to make this another successful fundraiser for a good cause.
